On May 8th we had our dinner and movie night at Dale and Irene's house. We ate two versions of Timpano and watched Big Night.  It was a great evening! We had a wonderful surprise on Saturday, April 3rd. Alex and Becky invited us to a cooking class at Great News in Pacific Beach. The class was given by Jean-Paul Weber. I knitted this scarf with instructions from the Indianapolis website.They are looking for 8,000 scarves for the 8,000 volunteers. II used the yarn the committee approved: Red Heart Super Saver, color white 0311 and blue 0385 and size US 8 needles. Other patterns are available on the website. The pattern is Basket Weave. I knitted the neck part in Knit 2 purl 2 ribbing so the scarf stays in place.

We saw this plant for the first in Cambria at a house we rented. Well, the kids rented for us for our anniversary and friends also came along. A GREAT weekend! We took a tiny seedling and planted it and we have had this plant ever since. About six plants are scattered around the yard, three are in a planter box on the patio and one of them has buds. I'll post more photos when the buds open up.

Baking cookies for friends and neighbors is an annual tradition. This year I baked and made: Pecan Pralines, Almond Cookie Squares, Chocolate Revel Bars, Chocolate Raspberry Linzer Cookies, Lemon Pinenut Stars and Seasoned Pretzels. This pattern is from Sara H. Baldwin and is called Magic Stripe Hot Pad. The pattern is easy but I made mistakes, 3 so far. Can you see them? The yarn is from Michael's, Loops & Threads, 60% cotton, 40% acrylic, machine washable and dryable. It has a very soft feel. The pattern make vertical rows on one side and horizontal on the other side.

After 160 of rain-free days it finally rained over 1 1/2" (3.81cm) and later afternoon a rainbow appeared. By the time got the camera and ran outside it was fading fast.

Andreas and Tammy drove us to the Schmidt Family Vineyard. Even though most of the plants were passed their blooming season, the grounds were still wonderful. Loved the wine!

We decided to drive to Oceanside, walk on the Pier and have lunch at Ruby's Diner. It was still foggy but the sun broke through every now and then. The pelican and the seagulls posed for the photographers and waited for the people fishing to give them scraps. Surfers waiting for the "big" wave.

My husband planted 16 different types of tomato plants. This tomato is named "Japanese Oxheart". We ate it last night, it is very meaty and good tasting. The small orange colored tomatoes are "Sungold".

Our Passion Vine has produced hundreds of blossoms this spring and summer, no fruit.I tried to take a photo of the butterflies that come and visit this plant, no such luck.You can see photos of the Silver-washed Fritillar here.
